Overlooking the bay of reef-fringed, deep blue water, and framed by stands of tall tropical trees and the occasional fruit tree, is an outdoor setting that begs to be used to read, sip afternoon pre-dinner drinks or watch the resident pod of dolphins that seem to visit the bay every day.
Just 90 minutes from Gurney airport, your journey to this resort paradise takes you through Alotau and down to the southern tip of the PNG mainland, before crossing to the north coast where your final part of the adventure will be by speed boat.
Covered walkways link the main reception and dining areas with the rooms themselves, which are huge. Two Queen size beds, air conditioning, ceiling fan, minibar, fridge, safe, satellite TV channels, a well-appointed modern bathroom, and what may be the ultimate private balcony.
There is also a family bungalow and on the waterfront, a huge villa that sleeps up to 8 people.
Three buffet style meals are served daily in our dining room. Snacks, juices, coffee and tea throughout the day are included. Besides the beautiful main dining room guests are able to dine outside on the verandah overlooking the rainforest. The dining room features 18 foot carved totems, beautiful hand-crafted wood details and a spectacular wall containing a collection of rare bottles found on dives in Samarai Bay.
Alchoholic and soft beverages are available for purchase at the Tawali bar. There is a small selection of Australian wines and basic spirits as well of a plentiful supply of the local ‘SP’ beer. There is now a large swimming pool along the waterfront and snorkelling equipment and kayaks are available for guests’ use on and around the house reef.
We can arrange non-diving tours for you, which include the ancestral skull caves, waterfall and swimming hole tour, Raggiana Bird Of Paradise hike, and the uninhabited island snorkel, swim and picnic day trip.
