Textile & Village Tour

This comprehensive itinerary begins in the East Sepik Province, where you will spend the first few days in and around the Wewak area, taking in the sights of surrounding islands and villages. Then you make your way up the mighty Sepik River to watch the weavers at work; this is where you'll find many of the better weavers of bilums and bags made in PNG. Enter spirit houses and learn about local beliefs before moving up river to watch how the local pottery is made. Many of the carvings you'll see in mainland PNG coves from Tambanum and Chimondo Villages, and this is where you'll head to next to see the artists at work.

After the Sepik, you head off up to Mount Hagen where you'll witness the making of headdresses and 'war' paint, Highland bilums (string bags) and other fantastic handicrafts. A beautiful scenic drive down the Highlands Highway follows, which will take you through to Goroka. You'll witness the famous Osaro mudmen and the construction of their helmets in your sight-seeing tour.

After a connecting flight to Port Moresby, you'll be on your way to Tufi. A short boat ride taking in the breathtaking fjords leads to local villages where you'll learn about the way of life and means of income from the people of Oro Province. Your tour ends with a night in the Tufi Resort before heading home.
