Kokoda News

Kokoda has been in the news a lot lately, unfortunately for the wrong reasons. PNG Holidays and its preferred Kokoda trekking company, Our Spirit Pty Ltd. can advise that we were not involved in any of the recent tragedies. Many tour operators use private charters and fly direct to Kokoda, risking lives flying visually in low cloud. We use pressurised jets on the RPT service, flying high over the Owen Stanley Ranges to Popondetta.

We have a vigourous training schedule to prepare for the trek, based on a person's level of fitness. If we feel that someone is not in a condition to complete the course, we will not allow this person to travel. Some operators claim to have a medic with their tour group, but we can assure people that we have a qualified emergency medic with medical supplies and satellite telephone at all times, should a medical evacuation be necessary. We have not had any casualties in over 14 years of trekking the Kokoda Track.
