Martin Keating

Over the next four years I lived in Kainantu and Lae and visited most other parts of the country.I have seen tribal fights fought the traditional way, attended village 'sing sings' (traditional dances), Seen the Highland show in Mt Hagen, chewed on Betel Nut and smoked tobacco rolled up in newspaper. I have eaten the best tasting lobster, coconut crab, and reef fish imaginable, overdosed on bananas and the biggest, juiciest mangoes you ever saw. I have seen the devestating effects of a volcanic eruption - but managed to go inside the volcanic crater first, experienced countless gurias (mini earthquakes) I met and made friends with the most amazing and friendlist people that I have ever met - before or since. I have seen some incredible reminders of World War 2 - wrecks of aircraft and ships and war cemeteries and submarine bases and have dived and snorkelled in some of the warmest, clearest waters imaginable - So many fish and so much coral! Papua New Guinea you just have to see it for yourself."
