Smugglers' Inn
On the shores of Astrolabe Bay, The Smugglers Resort is set in magnificent, landscaped tropical gardens and all 40 comfortable rooms are air conditioned. Most rooms overlook the sea or the swimming pool and they also have tea and coffee making facilities, direct dial telephone and TV. The town is a good 30 minute walk away, closer to an hour if you take the scenic coastal route. Transfers can be provided to a wide range of sporting activities such as golf, tennis, bowls or squash but while in Madang, it would be remiss to overlook some of the best snorkelling and diving in the world - there are amazing WW2 wreck dives and the marine life around the coral reefs is spectacular.
Fishing, water skiing, windsurfing, boat trips to local villages or even a slow boat around the harbour are also available. Restaurant prices will suit most pockets and the choices include something simple with chips to full à la carte, international style fare. The hotel can assist with conference requirements and, on the premises, there is a dive shop and an artefacts shop.
