Sailing

Adventures In Paradise Yacht Charters can take you on a voyage of discovery around the beautiful tropical islands of the Bismarck Archipelago in New Ireland Province, Papua New Guinea on Tiki Tu, a 33’ sailing catamaran.

Crystal clear water, white sandy beaches, friendly people, spectacular coral reefs, world class surf breaks, abundant fishing, picturesque villages, fascinating cultures, idyllic palms and unforgettable sunsets make this region a travellers delight and an unspoilt, isolated paradise. What better way to completely experience all that is on offer here than the simplicity and freedom of live-aboard yacht charter.

The islands of the Bismarck Archipelago are untouched by mass tourism, untroubled by 5-star resorts and package tourists not interested in the culture of the country that they are visiting. Every experience that you have will feel like you are the first to experience it, the first person to visit this island village, surf this wave or snorkel on this reef. New Ireland is an honest place full of people ready to invite you into their lives and their homes and allow you to have an experience that you will never, ever forget.

Adventures In Paradise Yacht Charters are the only yacht charters operating on a full time basis in Papua New Guinea.

Your hosts, Adam and Danielle Smith, can offer you an exclusive, uncomplicated, unspoilt, unbelievable experience concentrating on your interests. Every charter is tailored to the desires of those on board. There are no set departure dates or lengths of charter. Enjoy a few days’ island hopping and snorkelling, or set sail for a month and do it all, exploring river systems, fishing, snorkelling, hiking, surfing, visiting villages and more.

Kavieng is often described as a "typical Somerset Maughan south seas island port". It has a large, beautiful harbour, formed by Nago, Nusalik and Nusalavu Islands. Along its edge on the mainland is Kavieng’s Harbour Drive, a gently curving road, shaded by huge trees, which passes many points of historical interest.

Adventures In Paradise Yacht Charters operate from Nusalik Island, right next door to the Nusa Island Retreat. Kavieng Airport is only 2 minutes from the harbour, and Nusalik Island is a short banana boat ride across from the wharf. From Kavieng, you can explore the myriad of islands to the north west of New Ireland. There are 149 islands in New Ireland Province scattered over an area of 230,000 sq km of sea. Many parts of the area remain as it has for centuries. The people are incredibly friendly and accommodating, the islands spectacularly beautiful, and the waters pristine.

The Vessel
Tiki Tu is a 10 metre performance cruising catamaran. She is light, allowing for excellent performance in light airs. She is spacious, with 56 sq metres of deck space, including a large forward trampoline to soak up the sun. She has an awning which covers the whole back deck to shade you from the sun and keep you dry during the tropical rains whilst at anchor.

Tiki Tu is ideal for relaxing and peaceful cruising as she sits flat in the water without the constant roll that monohulls offer. Her draft is under 1 metre allowing her to enter shallow anchorages very close to the islands, and the reefs. Tiki Tu caters for small exclusive groups. Groups up to ten guests can join Tiki Tu on day sailing tours, or four guests for overnight and extended sailing adventures. Tiki Tu is not a ‘luxury’ catamaran, but she offers comfortable accommodation for the adventurous traveller of all ages who are seeking a voyage through paradise.

Tiki Tu’s Crew
Tiki Tu’s owners are Adam and Dani Smith. Both are originally from Melbourne, in Australia’s southern state of Victoria. Adam has been sailing and surfing his whole life, and with Dani has spent all their holiday time travelling and surfing in tropical island destinations over the last 10 years.

They came to Papua New Guinea and fell in love with New Ireland and the excellent sailing grounds, surfing, snorkelling and fishing that it offers, as well as the unique culture and genuine friendliness of the people.

Dani brings with her over 10 years experience in Melbourne restaurants. Together they offer a comprehensive package, and are proud to show you the beautiful locations that they found in their initial trip to New Ireland. A place that they now call home.

We enjoy relaxing sailing around the islands close to Kavieng. With heaps of deck space there is always plenty of room to lay about. Sit back and enjoy the beautiful islands, visit white sandy beaches, snorkel on amazing coral reef formations with a huge variety of fish in massive numbers, stroll around a deserted tropical island and trawl for fish.

We will tailor your charter to what you are interested in doing.

Charters
Spend your days sailing from one magnificent tropical island to another - snorkelling, swimming, fishing, surfing and relaxing in one of the world’s most unspoilt tropical playgrounds. Each day will offer a new and exciting experience. Enjoy your evenings with a freshly prepared meal served up with a different exotic backdrop every night, and if you prefer, sleep on the trampoline with the water below and the stars above.

We will tailor your charter to what you are interested in doing. You set the pace and we will show you the way.

The majority of our charters head west from Kavieng through the maze of islands dotting the passages between New Ireland and New Hanover (Lavongai), as well as the string of islands around the north and west side of New Hanover. We can however go to many more destinations such as West Coast New Ireland, Tabar Islands, Lihir Islands, Tanga Islands, Feni Islands and Nuguria Islands, as well as the Duke Of York Islands and Rabaul in East New Britain Province.

Adventures In Paradise Yacht Charters is an exclusive charter into the PNG wilderness. We do not mix groups. We are the only charter yacht in the area on a full time basis, and with a maximum of 4 passengers per charter, you are guaranteed to be the only visitors to these spectacular islands.

Try your hand at sailing or just sit back and relax!

Meals
All meals are freshly prepared, and take advantage of what this tropical island region has to offer - fresh fruit and vegetables and an abundance of fish and shellfish. Of course, if you have any special requests then we can normally accommodate them. When making your booking, you will be asked to complete a form regarding the catering for your specific charter. We are here to ensure that all aspects of your trip are just right, and everyone knows what an important part food is to your overall satisfaction. Danielle has over 10 years experience in restaurants in Melbourne, and cooking is one of her great pleasures.

Special Diets
For any dietary needs please advise at the time of booking. Given our location, we have only a limited supply of products for special diets such as Gluten, Wheat or Lactose intolerant, so it is suggested to contact us directly to see what we can get for you. Vegetarians can easily be catered for.
