Port Moresby & CentralCentral Province is separated from the Highlands by the majestic Owen Stanley Ranges that rise up over 4000m. The Kokoda Trail runs through it from the northern coast to the southern coast. Sogeri is the starting point for the famous Kokoda Trail starting 46 km from Port Moresby at 800m. In the Sogeri Plateau is The Varirata National Park, 1,000 hectares which was the original hunting grounds of its tree-house dwelling landowners and host to the birds of paradise, wallabies and deer. At the end of the trail the lookout presents a panoramic view of Port Moresby and the coastline. The road to Sogeri passes the historic Bomana War Cemetery which thousands of young soldiers are buried, Australian and Papua New Guinean from WW2. It is located under an incredibly massive and magnificent rain tree that stretches up the rise from the graves to the memorial above. Port Moresby overlooks a pretty natural harbour below the Owen Stanley Ranges. It is the national capital and home to many of the countries diverse cultures. There is now a major road that cuts through the hills to Jacksons International Airport. It is the major hub for business hosts one of the countries largest markets. Port Moresby (pronounced ''port morzbe'), or Pot Mosbi in Tok Pisin, is the largest city of Papua New Guinea (PNG). The city is located on the shores of the Gulf of Papua, on the southeastern coast of the island of New Guinea. The area on which the city was founded has been inhabited by the Motu-Koitabu people for centuries. It was first sighted by a European in 1873, Captain John Moresby. It was named in honour of his father Admiral Sir Fairfax Moresby. In September 1975, Port Moresby became capital city of the Independent State of Papua New Guinea. Parliament house is a building to be visited to see the architecture and designs that reflect the Maprik Haus Tambaran (House of Spirits). The museum is close to this with a visually wonderful array of PNG cultural artifacts, fauna and history. Down by the water you can see the houses built on stilts in the water at Hanuabada which are an amazing vision. There are botanical gardens with a boardwalk running through a jungle canopy and green lawns with an incredible collection of orchids which grown abundantly in PNG.
