Mt Giluwe & Mt HagenMount Hagen is 3800 metres above sea level and is located in the central Highlands of Papua New Guinea, sharing the border with Enga Province. It takes about 4 hours for professionals and 5 hours for amateurs from the base camp – Magic Mountain Nature lodge, to the summit. Observe orchids, exotic plants, insects and birds as you trek through the rainforest. An early morning walk is encouraged in order to reach the summit before the clouds set in. A beautiful view from the summit overlooking Mt. Hagen and Nebilyer Valley is guaranteed and this should excite photographers and adventurers. Looking further north is Enga Province which can be viewed after 3 hours walk through the ridges. After satisfying with all the natures and beauties up in the mountain, we descend back to Base Camp. Mount Giluwe is 4368 metres above sea level and is also located in the central Highlands of Papua New Guinea sharing borders with Southern Highlands. It is the world's highest volcanic summit above sea level. We transfer to Kargoba, an old high altitude agriculture research station on a 4 wheel drive and walk through the grassland trails and eventually into the forest and overnight at the foot of the mountain. This is an opportunity to acclimatize to the altitude. Extra warm clothing, your sleeping bag and an open log fire should keep you warm and comfortable. Take an early morning hike up the steep mountain face towards the ridges that lead to the summit. This is highly adventurous and an experience to relish. In the afternoon, return to base camp and if time permits, walk back to Kargoba and on to a waiting vehicle to Magic Mountain Nature lodge. Itinerary Day 1 - Arrive at Mt Hagen airport and transfer to Magic Mountain Nature Lodge. Depending on time of arrival, spend the afternoon on nature walks areound the lodge. Day 2 - After an early breakfast, set off on your trek to the summit of Mount Hagen. At the summit, enjoy the panoramic views across 3 provinces before an afternoon descent back to the lodge. Day 3 - Transfer to Kargoba by four-wheel-drive vehicle, then a walk through the grasslands and rainforest to base camp for the night. Day 4 - Early rise again and trek up to the peak of Mount Giluwe. Once at the summit, enjoy the views across to Tambul Valley, Ialabu and Mendi. Descend the way you came to base camp and walk to Kargoba and transfer back to Magin Mountain. Day 5 - After breakfast, transfer to Mount Hagen town or the airport to continue your adventure.
