Lae

Lae is the business centre of the north. With it's easy access by road to the highlands and Madang, and a deep harbour to cater for massive container ships from Asia, many companies have their main office in Lae. Like many towns in PNG, Lae was built around it's airstrip and was used until it outgrew it in the 1980s, and now is serviced by Nadab, a world war two built airstrip some 45 minutes out of town.

Lae's climate is tropical, with temperatures not varying much between day and night. Humidity can be very high, particularly in the wetter months between May and October. During these months there is usually constant rain, and if you want to see a "real" tropical storm, Lae won't disappoint.
