Conflict Islands Resort

The Conflict Islands are located in Milne Bay, South East of Papua New Guinea at the top of the Coral Sea. They are at the lower end of the D'castreneau Straits due east of the northern tip of Australia. They are world renowned for diving & fishing and are one of the world's most beautiful and unspoiled locations - only 6 hours from Sydney!

Milne Bay is known as the peaceful province, it is the largest marine province in PNG covering an area of 250,000 km2. There are over 600 islands and some 10,000 square km of reef! Milne Bay has recorded a third of the world's species of marine fish and is listed as an 'ecological hotspot' with one of the greatest marine species biodiversities in the world.

The province is home to everything from the tiny ghost pipe fish to the huge manta rays and killer whales. Milne Bay is also home to stunning birds of paradise, massive butterflies, cus cus, tree kangaroo and also some of the friendliest people you will ever meet.

Being one of the oldest reef systems in the world, with very little impact through mainland farming, land clearing or commercial fishing, the region is full of marinelife, stunning corals and incredible dives. Milne Bay's diving is in the top three world sites, according to National Geographic Magazine. It has a variety of beaches with powdery white sands, volcanic rock or with pebble or coral beaches. Assessments conducted in Milne Bay several years ago recorded nearly 430 species of coral, 950 species of molluscs and over 1100 species of fish, many found nowhere else.

The Conflict Islands are 22 pristine, uninhabited islands in an atoll configuration with numerous natural lagoons and coral reefs forming a unique chain of islands.

Panasesa is the main island on which all the infrastructure is located and which has two superb lagoons and a drift dives along a kilometre of sensational reef.

The other 21 islands are totally uninhabited, and all have wonderful beaches, lagoons and flora/fauna. 

The only way in and out is by charter aircraft. We can arrange this from Port Moresby or Cairns. 12 persons is the resort's capacity, but the shortness of the runway's length restricts the type of aircraft that can land here; it is too short for any jet aircraft. Once you're here though, the island is yours for the week. All your meals are cooked by the chef, all your alcohol* is included in the tariff, your comfortable beachfront bungalows have en-suite bathrooms, mini bar and private balcony.
