Central

The Central Province is separated from the Highlands by the majestic Owen Stanley Ranges that rise up over 4000m. The Kokoda Trail runs through it from the northern coast to the southern coast. Sogeri is the starting point for the famous Kokoda Trail starting 46 km from Port Moresby at 800m.

In the Sogeri Plateau is The Varirata National Park, 1,000 hectares which was the original hunting grounds of its tree-house dwelling landowners and host to the birds of paradise, wallabies and deer. At the end of the trail the lookout presents a panoramic view of Port Moresby and the coastline. The road to Sogeri passes the historic Bomana War Cemetery which thousands of young soldiers are buried, Australian and Papua New Guinean from WW2. It is located under an incredibly massive and magnificent rain tree that stretches up the rise from the graves to the memorial above.

PORT MORESBY

Port Moresby overlooks a pretty natural harbour below the Owen Stanley Ranges. It is the national capital and home to many of the countries diverse cultures. There is now a major road that cuts through the hills to Jacksons International Airport. It is the major hub for business hosts one of the countries largest markets.

Parliament house is a building to be visited to see the architecture and designs that reflect the Maprik Haus Tambaran (House of Spirits). The museum is close to this with a visually wonderful array of PNG cultural artifacts, fauna and history.  Down by the water you can see the houses built on stilts in the water at Hanuabada which are an amazing vision. There are botanical gardens with a boardwalk running through a jungle canopy and green lawns with an incredible collection of orchids which grown abundantly in PNG.

LOLOATA ISLAND
Lies off Bootless Bay and offers diving, snorkelling, fishing, sailboarding or just relaxing. Bootless Bay is about 20km from Moresby. Loloata means "one hill" and is a stunning Island only 20 minutes from the International Airport. It is located in Bootless Bay and looks back at the beautiful mountains of the mainland. A long jetty greets you to take you right up to the resort.

It is an aquatic wonderland of discovery for snorkeling and scuba diving enthusiasts. Local divers, island guests and our scuba schools enjoy escorted trips to nearby reefs and Lion Island, which is famous for its many species or hard corals.

And for the initiated, Loloata's world class scuba services offer adventurous wreck dives throughout Bootless Bay, night dives and superb diving excursions to nearby Horshoe Reef Marine Park.
You can walk all the way along the peak which runs the length of the island amongst the wallabies that inhabit the island. Spectacular sunsets can be enjoyed at sunset around the back of the dining area along a pathway built for this enjoyment. Hors d'oeuvre are served on the patio beside the bar every evening promptly at six o'clock.

This is by all means a perfect Island weekend getaway you can enjoy only 21/2 hours from mainland Australia.
