Western Province

The Western Province is PNG's largest yet least developed region and covers over 99,000km². The Provincial capital is Daru, but the largest town is Tabubil.

Tabubil is set amongst dense jungle in the Star Mountains and records the highest rainfall in the country. The town was established to support the nearby Ok Tedi mine, and has a population of approximately 13,000 people.

Bensbach, located in the Tond Wildlife Management Area, is full of low lying flood plains that around 190 species of migratory birds call home at various times of the year. Other animals living in the area are deer, crocodiles (fresh and saltwater), wallabies, monitor lizards and wild pigs, to name a few.

The Bensbach River is teeming with Barramundi, Tarpon and Sarratoga, which will provide hours of entertainment for the serious angler and novice alike.
