Ambua LodgeThe Ambua Lodge is an award winning eco-friendly retreat, built almost completely out of natural materials. Nestled on a hillside in the Tari Gap, with breathtaking 180° views of surrounding valleys, the lodge is self sufficient with its own hydro electric plant generating clean natural energy from nearby mountain streams. There is a main building containing the lounge, dining room and bar, with a central open firplace to keep warm on the cold highland nights. There is also a separate video room, heated spa and sauna. You will stay in one of the 40 private bungalows, each with its own private en-suite bathroom and no shortage of quilts and electric blankets. People come from all over the world to see the different orchids and birds that this region is famous for, including 13 species of Bird of Paradise. Other activites in this pristine rainforest region include bush walking along the nature trails, where you can cross vine bridges to view spectacular waterfalls. Access to the Ambua Lodge is via Tari, or charter flights can be arranged from the Karawari Lodge and Mt Hagen. Air Niugini flies to Tari from Port Moresby 6 days a week, with daily connections from Cairns and Brisbane. |
